Hello San Diego!

Special Notice: Due to a lack of local events the last week of of the year, we will not be sending out a newsletter next week. We will, however, add any new events we find to our calendar, and update the Film Section and Cultural Tidings as usual.

Friday and Saturday, Love Actually will be shown at Cinema Under the Stars. At Bazaar del Mundo, there will be a Trunk Show featuring jewelry made by Oaxacan artist Federico Jimenez Caballero.

Tonight (Friday), Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth will perform at Soma. The Iranian American Center will host a winter solstice Yalda Celbration.

Saturday, the Chinese Historical Museum will host a talk on Eureka’s Chinatown and the Case of Wing Hing VS the City of Eureka. The Centro Cultural de la Raza will hold their annual Posada Fundraiser. The Alfredo Rodriguez Trio will perform at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. The Flamenco Tablao Series will continue at Normal Heights Community Dev. Comedian Hari Kondabolu will perform at the Laugh Factory. The annual Irish Christmas Concert returns to Balboa Theatre.

Sunday, you can Celebrate Jólabókaflóð at Warwicks. Iceland holds the distinction of having the most libraries and books per capita, and Jólabókaflóð is an Icelandic tradition in which everyone buys books to give away at Christmastime! At NTC Liberty Station, there will be a Hanukkah Celebration and Menorah Lighting.There will be an Americans for Ukraine Holiday Luncheon at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club in Solana Beach. And there will be a Haiti Benefit Concert at the Holding Company.

Next Wednesday at the Rady Shell, the San Diego Symphony will perform music from the film Love Actually during the film's showing.

Next Thursday and Friday, Dante Chang will perform at the American Comedy Company.

Next Thursday, the Timken Museum will host a talk on the Spanish Baroque. At the Balboa Theatre, Mariachi Champaña Nevin will perform their Mexican Christmas Concert. At the First UU Church, Yale Strom and his band Hot Pstromi will perform their annual Winter Schminter klezmer Hanukkah/solstice concert.

Starting on Monday the 26th, the Worldbeat Center will be hosting their annual Kwanzaa Celebration with events each evening until that Thursday.

Cross-cultural/international-themed theatrical offerings in San Diego (in addition the holiday shows mentioned above) include Baskerville at Lamb's Players Theatre in Coronado. Holiday theatrical offerings include Cygnet Theatre's rendition of A Christmas Carol, Old Town Temecula Community Theater's A Christmas Carol, OnStage Playhouse's It's a Wonderful Vida!, Lamb's Players Theatre's adaptation of A Christmas Carol, and 1222 Oceanfront - A Black Family Christmas at several different venues.

Lastly, don't forget to check out Ongoing and Extended Events as well the generous number of International Films screening in local theaters!
